My two fold question is in what places might my degree not be a liability, and more positively, where might it actually be an asset? Do some venues look so kindly on the PhD that it matters little that it not in ESL exactly? Do you know any hybrid systems that mix ESL and academic content, functioning as a bridge to academic work? |

I'm sorry to hear about your Ph.d degree. There are quite a few Ph.ds collecting welfare and food stamps in AZ and IL AND they are teaching classes.
If you are going to teach abroad, you need to have a CELTA combined with your Ph.d (and hopefully your BA degree is in a language, preferably English).
On the bright side, once you get a steady gig overseas, you can default on your student loans and the gov't won't know where you are (be sure to close your domestic bank accounts, though). 8) |
