I am a very well traveled single American woman in her 30's currently seeking employment in various well-paid areas. I've noticed some recruiting in Libya and was wondering if I could have some input on teaching there in its current condition. I understand that it's not a stable country, but still developing in many ways. I've read a lot of positive feedback on teaching there in other forums, but most of it was prior to the recent NATO bombings, etc. I also understand that, as a woman, I can expect a lot of harassment; however, I have experienced this while traveling in other predominately Muslim countries. I want to know, really, how safe is it now for me to go and teach there. How would an American woman be perceived in light of the recent tumultuous times. Also, how restrictive/conservative is the country on a scale of Turkey to Saudi Arabia? Alcohol? Dress? Beach wear? Socializing with the opposite sex, etc.

Libya has the best students in the world but it is a very dangerous place for Americans. AVOID Oxford English Academy! Maybe in a few years but right now I would highly advise women to seek an African adventure elsewhere.
