This proves the value of research and also the value of commonsense. Spain currently has 19% unemployment, meaning a tighter market and is flooded with native speakers, all with EU passports, available to fill any vacancies. So why would any school waste time by going to the hassle and expense of hiring teachers from abroad? In the school where I worked in Valencia, any CVs from teachers without EU citizenship / not located in the city or with a firm arrival date for a face to face interview went straight into the bin.

The supply/demand economic effect of that is that the best offer you are likely to get will be 1500 euros per month. Flights, accommodation and health insurance will not be provided. So if you are offered very generous terms exceeding that without even an interview and are not suspicious, maybe your English skills would be better employed asking people what size of Big Mac they prefer?

Malaga in particular is a very popular place for expats from northern Europe and you are as likely to hear English or German there as Spanish. Believe me, I've been.

Speaking of which, there is yet another scam on the front page now, caxtoncolleges, a real school being used by scammers. "(3,300EUR ) comfortable accommodation, health insurance and visa assistance for non EU citizens etc..." No chance!!

Thanks for that JJM2000, the Caxton advertisement will be deleted today.

You will note that the email address is not the same as the website email address, although it looks similar. They have added an 's' to college and so it is not so noticeable: @caxtoncolleges.com and @caxtoncollege.com

Thanks UJ for chiming in, and thanks to JJ and mochi for the continued input. We will do all we can to continue to prevent and remove all these bogus postings while keeping the site essentially free for employers to assist their recruiting efforts. With limited openings available due to the recession, we don't want to inhibit those schools who are hiring by charging them $75 or much more like other sites to get their word out about their openings.

I guess the people from NIA got too many people on to them because it appears that they are now working under Colegio Aleman Juan Hoffmann in Malaga, Spain. Watch out for these people...once they get money for your housing and visa, they come up with new reasons for sending money. They go through Western Union and request money be sent to David Freeman. You are in contact with Karl-Heinz Korsten and a woman named Daniela. They will call you repeatedly very early in the morning until you answer the phone, never leaving a message if you do not answer. They also pressure you into getting the money quickly. I have reported this to the FBI because they have my passport information and SSN! If anyone else has dealt with these scammers, let me know so that I can forward your info to the FBI, too!

When I read the first paragraph, I really knew what would happen next. This is old trick and a genuine school will never ask their employee to pay them first. I even encountered the same scam, as well, when I was so young. Now I've learned my lesson and don't fall into these traps easily any more. Glad to hear you did not become a victim.
