Hey, I am trying to find a teaching job in Taipei City, Taiwan. I am 22 years old and female. I took the TESL Canada course but it seems that every school I have applied to in Taiwan wants the person they hire to have a bachelor's degree. I have not finnished mine yet. I know people who have gone to other countries to teach without having a degree but had anyone gone to Taiwan?
Thanks

I'm also really interested in Taiwan!! There are a lot of good jobs from there on this site.
But is anybody on this forum currently teaching there and could advise, some good schools or some things to watch out for??? I'm young too and just getting in to teaching.

thanks for offering to help, but can you respond here in the forum as I don't have a reliable email address. Also, do you think a relatively young asia-american girl will fit in well in Taiwan? I was also thinking of going to Eastern Europe, Korea, or Costa Rica and mexico |

Aha! Costa Rica or Mexico would be within my purview. Be happy to help answer any questions you have... _________________ Life is a verb, not a noun - Now Bloggin' and Working Hard |

Usually it's best to avoid agents. Some schools recruit from abroad, but if you can, just come over and look for work on the spot. You will need enough money for three months or so.
Taipei has the tightest job market at the moment. Try looking on tealit.com for current job listings. However, most of the schools advertising there want you to already be in the country. |

To Admin, there's been a lot of spam here recently, and it spoils the forum. Can you get rid of it? Thanks. |

Hello markc,
I'm located in the UK and most spam is put on overnight whilst I'm sleeping.
Nevertheless, our Spam software catches most of it and I remove the remainder when I check the forum several times during the day.

There are a lot of teachers looking for less work than before, but there are still quite a few jobs. What kind of qualifications do you have? Do you have any ESL/teaching experience?
If you were prepared to consider work throughout the island it would be easier.
Feel free to send me a pm. |

Hi,
I can see that there are a lot of jobs, but I worry that since I am not "white looking" that they will be biased against me. I know that it is easier to consider work throughout the island. I can go to Taipei later on. I will PM you... THanks! |
