How Difficult Is It for Non-nationals to find ESL Employment in Australia? |
Very easy. Just show up and expect to get hired. |

Not so easy. There are certain national teaching certifications you'll need. |

Difficult. The job market is saturated in this field as it is. |

Next to impossible. Foreign nationals are rarely hired when there are so many unemployed citizens that fit the bill already. |

Finding university work teaching English and employment an ESL private school are generally two different ballgames. |

I am a Ph.D in Liguistics from India and hv a B.A. and M.A. degree in English and also hv a Diploma in teching Engilsh as a second language. But that is also from India. I hv an experience of teaching English (the age group 15-17) for the past 15 years. If i want to teach English at the schools in Australia am I elligible without any internationally acceptable ESL certificate? I shall be glad if you kindly help me in this regard with your advice.
Thank you.

Very hard to comment on this. Yes, the ESL market is pretty saturated in Au; it’s not easy to find even sessional positions. Yes, local qualifications will be preferred. Moreover, to work at secondary level you will need to be registered. Sorry to mention this but an Indian accent can be an issue as well. |
